“Censorship” is often used to describe different decisions. It helps to distinguish Community Guidelines, legal requirements and monetization policies.
Community Guidelines
These address issues including dangerous content, harassment, hate speech, scams and sexual exploitation. Exceptions for educational, documentary, scientific or artistic context are assessed individually.
How violations are detected
Automated systems and user reports help identify violations, with specialists involved in review. Decisions can be mistaken, which is why appeal procedures exist.
Advertising and the law
A permitted video is not necessarily suitable for advertisers. Limited monetization differs from removal; availability can also depend on local law.

This file does not request your name, email, date of birth or account access, and it does not send your saved choices to a server. When you follow an external link, that website’s policies apply.
If this file is hosted online, the hosting provider may keep technical logs. How those logs are handled depends on the party responsible for hosting.

Why does content become unavailable?
The reason determines your next step. Check the platform’s notice as well as the message in the player.
Age or regional restrictions
A video may remain on the platform while being unavailable to certain audiences. An age restriction is not a removal; availability by country can also depend on content rights and local requirements.
Removal, strikes or channel restrictions
Policy violations can lead to content removal and action against a channel. Creators should check the reason and available appeal process in YouTube Studio. Do not delete a video simply to clear a strike: deletion does not remove the strike and may prevent an appeal.

A creator may delete a video or change its visibility. Copyright claims are handled separately from Community Guidelines violations. Follow the process specified in your notice.
